Lise Bellefleur, a civil servant of over 28 years in the New Brunswick provincial government, has spent half of her career working on the front lines where she helped individuals through the multitude of challenges experienced as a result of poverty, abuse and neglect, and violence. Later moving in to the program support and policy arena in areas relating to social housing, health and violence against women where the front line experience provided a context to provide advice on moving towards programs and policies that promote individual empowerment and tackle systemic issues holistically.

From 2002-2008 as Director of Violence Prevention Initiatives, within the Women’s Issues Branch of the Executive Council Office, the major functions included leading a team of professional in the implementation of the province’s action plans 1 and 2, entitled “A Better World for Women”. Initiatives included the development and on-going support of a Provincial Family Violence Network, development and implementation of the first Domestic Violence Court east of Ontario, development and implementation of a provincial outreach program and network and, the implementation of Ontario’s Middlesex County, Concurrent Program for Children exposed to Domestic Violence and their mothers.

In June 2008, she accepted a position with the Department of Public Safety as Director of Strategic Policy and Planning. In that capacity she is leading a team supporting the departmental needs in Legislation Development in its responsibility for 24 + Acts and 90+ sets of regulations, while the Performance Management and Strategic Planning functions also support a corporate scope. The Department’s range of responsibility is broad, covering all aspect of public safety and security.
